APOY Success

I have just opened my subscription copy of Amateur Photographer and received a pleasant surprise. My image, "Red Pipe", was placed third in the Architectural Exteriors round of the magazine's Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOY) competition. It was my "Photo of the Day" image for 19 March 2014 and was taken during a test shoot of a new camera. It was when I got home that I fully recognised its potential, although it took three hours sitting at the computer to achieve something I was happy with.

Note that I have since renamed the image for competition purposes.

Thanks, Rose. I knew it was a good photo, but it has been far more successful than I could have imagined. :D

Congratulations, it has done well must be one of your better shots. It makes you feel proud and worth the work put into it.

Thanks, Ron. It's definitely gratifying when it all comes together.

Well done, Mike. Although I would have put your shot above the second place one. Am I biased :?:

It would seem your camera bag has just got heavier

Thanks, David. I am distinctly non partisan about the order in which I would have placed the winning shots. ;)

It looks different on the APOY site, as though they boosted the highlights perhaps? Perhaps even an overall brightness boost? Comparing the two side by side after grabbing them from the respective sites and ensuring the background is the same, they are different.

Or did you submit a tweaked version perhaps?
